Budapest added to list of intentional bidders for 2019 SU

Multisports 19 February 2013

LAUSANNE FISU has received a third letter of intention of a host city for the 30th Summer Universiade in 2019. The third intentional bidding city is Budapest, the capital of Hungary and the letter was received by MEFS, the Hungarian National University Sports federation.

The intention to bid for FISU’s flagship event comes as no surprise since the Hungarian NUSF is a very active FISU member association which has been staging several World University Championships in the past as well as the 4th Summer Universiade in 1965. Moreover, Hungary always sends large delegations to participate in the Winter and Summer Universiades.

After Brazilian capital Brasilia and Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan, Budapest is the third capital – coincidently all cities’ names starting with a ‘B’ – to enter the bidding contest for the 30th Summer Universiade.

FISU officially opened the bid process for both the 2019 Summer (30th edition) and Winter (29th edition) Universiade on 1 September last year, with the hosts to be selected on 9 November 2013.
