Baku intents to bid for 2019 Summer Universiade

5th WUC Boxing in Baku

LAUSANNE FISU has received a letter of intention from the National University Sports Federation of Azerbaijan to enter the bidding contest to host the 30th Summer Universiade in 2019 in the country’s capital Baku.

Recently, in 2012, the NUSF of Azerbaijan hosted the 5th World University Boxing Championship in Baku. The country is becoming active hosting international sporting events. Besides staging the FIFA Women’s U17 World Championship in 2012, Baku was a candidate for the 2020 Summer Olympics.

After Brazilian capital Brasilia, Baku is the second capital to enter the bidding contest for the 30th Summer Universiade.

FISU officially opened the bid process for both the 2019 Summer (30th edition) and Winter (29th edition) Universiades on 1 September last year, with the hosts to be selected on 9 November 2013.
