The FISU delegates Jing Zhao, Summer Games Director (4th from right); Brian Carrer, Summer Games Event Manager; Andrea Uccello and Joshua Miethke, Summer Games Assistants along with Rhine-Ruhr 2025 COO Alexis Schäfer (R) and Düsseldorf Airport officials.The FISU International Technical Committee (ITC) concluded the final round of inspection of the remaining seven venues of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games on Friday and has acknowledged the hosts preparedness.
The delegates, during their four-day visit from 14-17 November, inspected the athletics venue in Bochum; archery, swimming and table tennis facilities in Düsseldorf and fencing, judo and taekwondo arena in Essen.
Tom Baster, FISU Technical Committee Chair (TCC) Swimming, was all praise following his visit to the Messe Düsseldorf – Hall 8a and Rheinbad.
“I’m delighted to be here in Düsseldorf looking at some spectacular facilities. There’s a great warm up pool, it looks like it’s going to be a fantastic swimming arena. It is exciting to be back here looking at these venues and the preparations for the 2025 FISU World University Games. It’s going to be an exciting competition,” said Baster, who added he was “impressed” by the standard set by the Local Organising Committee.
“I would like to thank everyone who has assisted us with our venue visits. We will continue to work together to produce an outstanding experience for the athletes. The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games promises to be an exceptional spectacle,” he added.
Andrzej Hrehorowicz, TCC Table Tennis, following his meeting in Duisburg said: “This was the first time I was visiting Düsseldorf, but I’ve already met some nice people who are set to host the unique FISU World University Games in 2025. After visiting the beautiful Messe Düsseldorf venue where the table tennis competition will be held, I believe it is an excellent choice for our competition.”
“And now we prepare the field of play for the competition, we haven’t faced any problems so far and even if we do, I’m confident we can solve it. I would like to thank the Local Organising Committee in for supporting us during the inspection and I am sure this will be a very nice event,” Hrehorowicz added.
Rhine-Ruhr 2025 CEO Stefan Kürten felt the feedback from FISU ITC was overwhelming and vital.
“I would say we have crossed the first hurdle and that too, impressively. All the feedback gained from the FISU ITC and TCC visits will help us further enhance and channelise our energies in the right direction. We will continue to work closely with FISU on the parameters that have been set. Our sole aim is to provide the athletes with an environment as conducive as possible and make this event more entertaining for the spectators,” he said.

Chunde Shen (Athletics) and Sergey Tabakov (Judo) joined virtually.
