100 days to go, 100% ready! Students-athletes will meet again in the Chengdu 2021 FISU Games

Summer Games 19 April 2023

100 days! As of today, this is the time remaining before the start of the Chengdu 2021 FISU World University Games. From 28 July to 8 August, thousands of student-athletes, coaches and officials from the five continents are expected in Sichuan’s capital.

The 20 million people Chinese megalopolis will host 269 medal events in 18 sports (artistic Gymnastics, swimming, badminton, athletics, fencing, table tennis, basketball, volleyball, judo, archery, water polo, taekwondo, diving, tennis, rhythmic gymnastics, wushu, shooting sport, and rowing).

Competitions will be held in 45 different sports venues, including 13 newly built for the FISU Games.

At the recent Head of Delegations meeting, delegates and FISU staff who visited some of the main facilities were unanimously impressed by the remarkable level of preparations and had no doubt that Chengdu was 100% ready for this large multisport event.

“I’m more than convinced that Chengdu will host great games,” said FISU Acting President Leonz Eder. “I hope that as many student-athletes as possible will come to Chengdu to compete and meet each other.”

Twice postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the FISU Games in Chengdu will close a 4-year period without summer games, with the latest edition held in Napoli (Italy) in 2019.

“FISU has always been united whatever the problems we were facing. The Chengdu 2021 FISU Games will play an important role for this unity and peace between student athletes and within the world of university sports,” said FISU Secretary General and CEO Éric Saintrond.
