More than 7,000 participants gather for the Brazilian University Games

FISU 20 September 2022

Until Sunday, more than 7,000 athletes, technical committee, health professionals and volunteers will participate in the largest university sports event in Latin America, held in Brazil’s capital Brasilia.

The Brazilian University Games (JUBs 2022) will bring together 18-25 years old student-athletes from the country’s 27 states. The participants have been selected through a series of preliminary competitions at the local level.

Organized by the FISU-affiliated Brazilian University Sports Confederation (CBDU), the JUBs benefit from the support of the Special Secretariat for Sport of the Ministry of Citizenship.

The event is taking place in 20 different venues throughout the Federal District, as well as in the International Convention Center of Brasil, which will host 14 sports in addition to be the event’s center of operations.

“Brasilia is the best place to hold this event,” said CBDU President Luciano Cabral. “All the venues, hotels and facilities are concentrated within a relatively small radius, which make things much easier for everyone, from the organizer to the athletes.”

The programme of the JUBs covers 28 disciplines, including an academic competition, eSports and paralympic sports (which are fully integrated in the event).

Skateboarding, cheerleading and breaking – for the first time – are also scheduled besides the other, more traditional, sports.

“This year’s edition is larger than the previous one and this is because the JUBs 2021 were an immense success despite the pandemic. This week, we expect games of excellence,” Luciano Cabral added.
