BRAZIL – The city of Goiânia is ready and anxious to receive college athletes from all over Brazil next month. The city will be hosting the finals of the 2012 Brazilian Sports University League, which will happen from June 11th to 16th. The president of the Brazilian Confederation of Universities’ Sports, Luciano Cabral, assures that the capital also awaits with excitement for the results that define the host city for the 2013 Brazilian Universities’ Games – the most important universities’ sports event of Brazil – set to happen on May 30th.
In April, the North/Northeast Phase of the League took place, and in the beginning of this month the South/Southeast/Middle-West Phase. In these phases, the three best teams of each category and sport – basketball, volleyball, handball and soccer (male and female teams) – were placed for the finals, and now prepare to compete for the title. Besides those teams, the champions of last year’s edition of the competition and one team from each category belonging to the state of Goiás will also play.
The 2012 Brazilian Sports University League is organized by the Brazilian Universities’ Sports Confederation with support from the Sports Ministry and sponsored by Itaú Bank, through the Incentive Law of the Federal Government.
