University sport excellence made in Switzerland

FISU 13 September 2018

Kora, Eder and junior award winner Sarah Zoller (Alpine Skiing)

ST. GALLEN — Student-athlete Salomé Kora and FISU First-Vice President Leonz Eder both took home awards at this year’s St.Galler Sportpreis ceremony in the north-eastern Swiss town. Salome, a two-time Taipei 2017 Summer Unviersiade medalist, was awarded in the category athlete/team of the year.

For Kora it was the second time on stage. In 2015, she received the same award for the first time. For the future, the sprinter set the bar high: “I’m still quite far away from the magical threshold of eleven seconds in the 100m, but I’m working on getting closer to this mark.”

Eder, who traveled from the World University Sailing Championship in Cherbourg, France to his hometown to attend the ceremony, received St. Gallen’s honorary award. The FISU Vice President has been athletic director of the University of St. Gallen for 39 years.

“It’s a great honour to receive this award,” said the newly-retired Eder who will donate his prize money: “I do receive pension now, so the money will go to a sports organisation from St. Gallen.”
