Movers & shakers celebrate IDUS in Austria, Portugal

Boxing and Dance in Braga


The International Day of University Sports was celebrated in Braga by the Portuguese University Sports Federation (FADU), Associação Académica do Minho, Universidade do Minho and Câmara Municipal de Braga.

Important heads of sports bodies came together on Friday, 21 September to discuss ways to improve the impact of university sports events. This Forum included the National Futsal Coach, Jorge Braz, the president of the Portuguese Cycling Federation, Delmino Pereira, the athletics coach, Pedro Pinto, and also the Chief Communication Officer of Sporting Clube Braga, André Viana, among many others.


Saturday 22 September was a sports day, with the celebrations starting with an All-Star Game. There were several activities through the day including an open boxing class promoted by SC Braga, and a group dance class at the end of the day.


Opening of the European Week of Sports in Austria  


As part of the IDUS celebrations and also to celebrate the Austrian EU Presidency, the European Week of Sport was officially declared open on Saturday, 22 September in Austria. Unisport Austria came together with Austrian University Sport to mark the occasion.


With courses offered at the University Sports Institutes of the Universities of Vienna, Graz, Salzburg, Innsbruck, Linz, Leoben and Klagenfurt, Austrian University Sport held a total of 5,650 courses in 2017, covering almost 40% of the Austrian mass sports program.
