Heavy lifting and hoops play central role in IDUS Poland

FISU 27 September 2018

With the role that university sport plays all across Poland, it comes as little surprise that the International Day of University Sport celebrations were a central part of campus and community on the 20th of September.

Leading the charge was the Polish Students Sport Union (AZS), which arranged multiple events to spread a word about university sport activities. This year it coincided with the World University Weightlifting Championship that was taking place in Biala Podlaska from the 20-23 September. Inspired by the endeavours of student-athletes, all sport lovers visiting the championship could try weightlifting themselves under close supervision of the Polish national team coaches. Additionally, the information about right nutrition and training routine was provided in the promo IDUS tent.

In the meantime in Krakow, Polish university teams were playing a 3-day basketball tournament with their Czech counterparts. A friendly match, the launching of the tournament was dedicated to IDUS. However, later on Polish students showed their competitive edge and the guests from the Czech Republic had to concede. The trophy was won by Good Lood AZS PK Krakow, capping a nice sportive at the beginning of another academic year.
