BRASILIASeptember 24th, after five days of games, involving more than 900 student-athletes from thirteen states, the national phase of Brazilian University Sports League 2011 came to an end. The League finals were hosted in the city of Brasília, the federal capital.

Teams from São Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio de Janeiro, Goiás and Pernambuco reached the top spot of the podium in the handball, futsal, basketball and volleyball tournaments (male and female) competitions.

Emphasis on São Paulo delegation, champions of women’s handball and men’s futsal tournaments with Uni Sant’anna (SP) and of women’s volleyball with Uniara (SP).

In addition to the disputes on the court for the national title, a series of activities allowed moments of integration and learning among the young student-athletes during the Brazilian University League.

In the ‘Living Center’, at the Bay Park Hotel, which received all the delegations of the League 2011, athletes were able to have fun, relax and socialize with each other. They had video games, salon games and table tennis. And from 9pm to 11pm, a special DJ animated the athletes.

“I liked the idea of the Living Center because we had our moment of fun and interaction with our team and we ended up interacting with other teams as well. The DJ was pretty cool, it was time to give a little relaxed, vent the tension of the games. And as it finished at 11pm, we could relax and refocus for the game next day. I loved the competition”, said Natalia Voss, handball player of Universo (RJ) and silver medallist of the League.

Visiting BrasiliaAnother novelty of the League 2011 was the city tour around Brasilia, the federal capital. Many young people who come to Brasilia for the first time or who want to learn more about the history of the country and the capital, boarded the bus that made two trips daily.

“Joining a sports competition with moments of integration, learning and leisure is one of the highlights of the university tournaments and we started this project at the League with Sports Clinics, Living Center and the City Tour. Now we intend to extend this idea for the next events”, said Luciano Cabral, president of CBDU.
