NAIROBI – The 10th edition of the All-Africa University Games will be held at Kenyatta University from 17-21 August. About 4000 participants from universities across the African continent are expected to take part in the five day competition in 15 sports: Athletics, Badminton, Basketball (3×3 and 5-a-side), Billiards, Chess, Football, Handball, Karate, Netball, Rugby 7s, Snooker, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Volleyball and Woodball. Three extra sports – namely Rollerball, Snooker and Woodball – shall be played for demonstration purposes.
The Vice-Chancellor of Kenyatta University, Professor Paul K. Wainaina officially launched preparations by announcing the Local Organising Committee (LOC), unveiling the event logo and online registration portal. A pre-event scientific conference and Heads of Delegation meeting is also scheduled to take place in July at Kenyatta University.
FASU Secretary General (L) shares a light moment with President of the LOCThis will be the 3rd time that Kenya will host this continental event, commonly known as the FASU Games. Earlier editions had been held in 1978 and 2014, both at the University of Nairobi.
Professor Wainaina said, “I thank FASU for entrusting our university with the games and I urged the LOC to deliver the games at a standard that reflects Kenyatta University’s track record of excellence.”
Speaking at the launch, FISU Vice President and FASU Secretary General Peninnah Kabenge highlighted the opportunities that await participants including the chance to represent Africa in the FISU University World Cups in 3×3 Basketball and Football.
