University League opens CBDU 2014 Competition Calendar

BRAZIL – From 8 to 12 April, in São Luis, Maranhão, the Brazilian University Sport Association (CBDU) opened its 2014 Competition Calendar with the North/Northeast Regional Division of the University Sport League (LDU) for Indoor Sports i.e., basket, handball, futsal and volleyball.

 “It is a pleasure to host the LDU again in Maranhão. The city of São Luis works hard to offer all the best for the LDU and the athletes.  Each year the event grows. This is the sixth edition and no doubts the biggest ever organized. We are happy to host it”, commented Alim Neto, CBDU Vice-President, COSUD President and Sport Secretary of Maranhão.

During the year, the LDU is also staged in other team sports and individual sports i.e., Chess, Rugby 7, Basket 3 x3, Football, Football 7, Beach Games and Tennis.

1,000 students-athletes from the N/NE region attended the sixth edition of the tournament, in São Luis. The same amount of participants is expected for the East-center/South/ Southeast Division of the LDU 2014, from 21 – 26 April, in Caçador, Santa Catarina.

CBDU supports all the competitors at the Regionals providing accommodation and restaurant facilities. For those who qualify for the National Division, to take place in Anapolis, Goiás, from 26 to 31 May, the Organization also will provide the airlines fares. 

The same occurs for the Brazilian University Sport Games (JUB’s) which takes place in the second semester of 2014 and which is the biggest university sport event in Brazil, with 10 different sports and participants from all over the country. The Games are also divided in Regionals and National Division, with all the 27 States Champions participating.

At the competition in São Luis, in the volleyball, the women’s team from Unifor (CE) was the champion after defeating the team from Uninassau (PE) with the score of 3 sets to 2. While the Men’s group was won by the team from Uniniltonlins (AM) over the team from Uninassau (PE),

In the Basket tournament, the Men’s group was won by UFC (CE) after the final against UFPA (PA), (69:47). In the Women’s group, Uninassau (PE) beat UFPA (PA), with the score 67 to 36. While at the futsal, the female and male teams from Unifor (CE) were the champions. The last sport was handball, with the both genders teams from Uninassau (PE), becoming the champions.
