FISU Seminar in Taipei City ends

TAIPEI CITY On the second day of the FISU Seminar for the 2017 Summer Universiade hosted by the 2017 Taipei Universiade Organising Committee, the topic discussed was commercial planning and venue management. In the morning session of commercial planning, Lou Lauria and Vanessa Aiello shared their knowledge and experience on the component of the Marketing Plan Agreement and FISU’s role in supporting the OC’s MPA development. Dejan Susovic touched upon broadcasting and media concerns for multi-sport events like the Summer Universiade. The MPA that is scheduled to be signed between FISU and the Taipei OC will be the first MPA in FISU’s history. For the afternoon session, while most of the participants continued their discussion on commercial planning with the FISU team, a small group of participants went on a break-out session for a more engaging discussion with Marc Vandenplas and Lisa Hindson. A wide range of topics were discussed at the break-out session such as insurance issue for the Games, venue inspections, planning roadmap, volunteer programme, torch relay etc. In the last session in the afternoon, Jeff Keas made a clear introduction on venue management with sound examples. On top of the professional presentation, the FISU delegates also teamed up to answer many questions regarding venue management and commercial planning.

Break-out session

The final day of the FISU Seminar for the 2017 Summer Universiade finished on a high note at the Department of Civil Servant Development international conference hall on 15 March 2013. The agendas for the last day included venue management and Athletes’ Village planning, Jeff Keas and Michael Halchak, the lecturers of the day, shared their professional ideas regarding the construction and operation of planning for both sports/non-sports venues and the Athletes’ Village. They also provided in-depth analysis specifically on the sketching, developing and integrating of sports/non-sports venues, supported with sound case studies. In addition, one of the crucial infrastructures, also closely related to every sportsman, the Athletes’ Village, is a topic that attracted a lot of attention and discussion. Michael Halchak did a comprehensive introduction on the subject of catering, laundry, housing, transport, medical service and recreational activities in functional area perspective. 

Through the three-day seminar, all members had open discussions with FISU experts. The experience shared and ideas got across from this seminar are certainly positive towards the preparation of the 2017 Universiade. The FISU team of experts also paid tribute to the Taipei Universiade Organising Committee (OC) at the conclusion session.  Both FISU and the Taipei OC are looking forward to collaborating closely and continuously to ensure a successful 2017 Taipei Universiade.
