Winter Games 22 February 2016

KRASNOYARSK – A FISU delegation is currently in Krasnoyarsk to participate in the 2016 Krasnoyarsk Economic Forum (KEF2016). The FISU delegates met with the Mayor of Krasnoyarsk City Edkham Akbulatov, to discuss the implementation of the plans on the preparation of the 29th Winter Universiade in 2019.

Edkham Akbulatov emphasised that the top priority task at the current stage is the construction of modern sports venues in Krasnoyarsk: “The construction of multi-functional sports and leisure complex with the ice sports venue ‘Platinum Arena’ recently started. Design documentation development has been completed for the sports arena which will be erected in the Sovetsky District. It is important that the construction of a new passenger terminal of the Yemelyanovo Airport has been commenced. In the city, special attention is also paid to the creation of social spaces.”

Maxim Urazov, Director General of the Executive Directorate of the 29th Winter Universiade Krasnoyarsk 2019, noted that today the concept of the Winter Universiade Park and its location are being elaborated in all details.

FISU Secretary General/CEO Eric Saintrond pointed out the important aspect of the preparatory work like the public promotion campaign of the Games between the Krasnoyarsk citizens and around the world: “The promotion campaign of the Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk is vitally important. We need to make people look forward to this event. Surely, the Universiade promotion shall be of a global nature. And we will do our best to bring as many foreign teams as possible to Krasnoyarsk.”

The meeting participants emphasized that it is necessary right now to work out the logistics of the athletes’ arrival in Krasnoyarsk from all over the world, to consider the creation of an individual transport scheme for the period of the 2019 Winter Universiade to ensure comfortable transportation around the city. “We have been efficiently cooperating as partners for two years. Ahead we have three more years of very serious preparatory work. I expect that we will successfully meet the challenges, and ensure compliance of the event with all international standards. As the result we will hold the event of which the Krasnoyarsk citizens, the Russians and, of course, the International University Sports Federation will be proud,” the FISU President Oleg Matytsin summarised.

At the end of the meeting Eric Saintrond pointed out with a smile: “Coming to Krasnoyarsk in winter, each time, I note that it is getting warmer and warmer here. Please, keep the frosty and real winter!”
