CTI Meeting in Granada

GRANADA From Wednesday 23 October to Friday 25 October, the Technical Delegates for WU sports met at the CTI-WU meeting (International Technical Committee for the Winter Universiade) in Granada, host city for the 27th Winter Universiade in 2015.

During the first day, the delegation, led by Roger Roth, CTI-WU Chair and Robert Philip, Vice-Chair CTI-WU and consisting of Dusan Hamar, Vice-Chair Medical Committee; the FISU Technical Delegates Jeanette Johnston (Curling), Lars Karlsson and Frederick Meredith (Ice Hockey), Matjaz Kranjc (Alpine Skiing), Marie Lundmark (Figure Skating), Ola Sundekvist (Snowboard), Nam Hwan Park (Short Track), Iain Mackay (Freestyle Skiing), as well as FISU staff members Milan Augustin, Director for the Winter Universiade; Jiho Kim, WU Executive Assistant; Paola Forni, WU Assistant and David Vandenplas, Media Assistant, met for an internal meeting discussing the following topics: the CSU-WU report, the inspection and information relating to the implementation of the competition program.

The CTI-WU members then met with the Organizing Committee of Granada 2015, represented by Aurelio Ureña, OC CEO of Granada 2015 and David Cabello, General Director of Granada 2015 and member of the Executive Committee of FISU. During this meeting, the local OC presented its master plan (organizational structure of sports and sports facilities and presentation of different managers), the location of the facilities, the competition programme, training and testing events and the operational plans for snow and ice sports.

In the afternoon, the FISU technical delegates met with managers of the sports facilities for their respective sports as part of a workshop held in the Granada Congress Palace. The workshop was intended to produce a first draft of the programme of events.

On the second day of meetings, the CTI-WU began with a tour of the sites that will host the competitions: the ski resort of Sierra Nevada for alpine skiing, freestyle skiing and snowboarding; the Granada Sports Palace and Mulhacen Pavilion for ice hockey; the facilities in Fuentenueva for curling and the ‘Athletics High Performance Centre’ in Antequera for short and figure skating. Each delegate was able to make a detailed tour of the sports facilities in the presence of its site manager to ensure that a competition on the scale of the Winter Universiade can be hosted and, if it was not the case, he/she could advise on the adjustments to be undertaken.

Dusan Hamar met his counterparts responsible for the medical facilities in the Sierra Nevada to discuss, among other things, the management and transportation of injured athletes and the infrastructure necessary for the anti-doping controls.

The CTI-WU will end today with a final meeting between the FISU delegation members and the Granada OC members.
