2013 SU Update: Universiade Village cares for 'Healthy Hearts'


KAZAN - TheUniversiadeVillage hosted the Healthy Hearts All-Russian Education Campaign. Residents and staff members of theUniversiadeVillage had a chance to undergo a free medical examination and check their cardiovascular fitness.

First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Oleg Morozov, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee for Health Care Nikolay Gerasimenko and Minister of Health Care of theRepublicofTatarstan Airat Farrakhovjoined students for the event.

In took a few minutes to measure blood glucose and cholesterol levels, blood pressure and identify bad habits and stress resistance. Patients were examined by leading cardiologists of the republic, and after undergoing a diagnostic procedure, they received a personal consultation, and some were invited to take a free detailed examination in the Kazan Cardiology Health Centre.

«The main goal of the campaign is to make people understand how important prevention of cardiovascular diseases is», said Nikolay Gerasimenko, Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and head of the ‘Healthy Hearts – Healthy Russia’-project. «Implementing such projects, we intend to educate our medical personnel, as well as the whole population in general.»

«Hurray! I’m healthy!» exclaimed with happiness Marat Tukhvatullin, a resident of theUniversiadeVillage. «I wanted to take a medical examination and check my blood glucose level long time ago, and now I was given a chance to do it, and for free. I’m very happy.»

Liliya Galeeva, a physician of the municipal polyclinic №21, who held a final consultation with the event participants, admitted that most residents of theUniversiadeVillageare healthy as most of them do sports and live a healthy life.

«The ‘Healthy Russia’-project has a preventive and educating character. We are glad that the majority ofUniversiadeVillageresidents are healthy. According to the statistics, if each person regularly examined his/her heart condition, the death rate could have decreased by half a million. The ‘Healthy Hearts’-project allows to carry out a primary evaluation of your health and identify risk factors. Sometimes, even a small interference can save a life of a person», Oleg Morozov summed up the results of the campaign.

Over 500 students and staff members of the UniversiadeVillage took part in the event, with the total number of participants reaching 40,000 all over Russia.
