FISU to honour inspiring university sports leaders at 36th General Assembly

TURIN, Italy – The International University Sports Federation (FISU) will hold its 36th General Assembly on 15-16 November in Turin, one of the founding cities of the university sport movement. On the agenda is the inclusion of a new member federation, the conferring of several awards for sports and service as well as the elections of a new Executive Committee for the 2019-2023 term.

General Assembly Shenzhen 2011On the second day of the General Assembly, FISU’s 174 member associations will elect 23 Executive Committee members from among 44 candidates. Representatives from ten National University Sports Federations (NUSF) have filed their candidature for the three Vice President positions. The four positions of FISU President, First Vice-President, Treasurer and Senior Executive Committee Member will be elected by acclamation.

 

A special Fair Play award will be announced by the International Fair Play Committee, in recognition of an athlete’s outstanding gesture of friendship and camaraderie during the Napoli 2019 Summer Universiade.

 

Also to be announced are a set of inaugural Primo Nebiolo Medals – named after the creator of the Universiade and the second FISU President, whose legacy shaped the modern international university sports movement. The Primo Nebiolo awards will recognise outstanding achievements and contribution to the development and promotion of university sports, both at international and national level.

 

The first day of the General Assembly will culminate with the 4th edition of the FISU Gala, a dazzling evening that will celebrate FISU’s 70th Anniversary and also acknowledge the best individuals and organisations in university sports. The most eagerly awaited awards are the Best Female Athlete and Best Male Athlete awards that will be conferred upon two internationally renowned sporting stars.

 

The 36th FISU General Assembly gets underway in the morning of 15 November at the Lingotto Congress Center in Turin, Italy.
