6th WUC Match Racing – Day 1

Competition in full swing

NICE – This first day of competition at the 6th World University Match Racing Championship in Nice, France took place under a wind oscillating between 4 and 6 knots. Sun in the morning, clouds in the afternoon: 35 matches were competed, respecting the plans of the organizers.

Even if it is far too early to raise conclusions, some tendencies appear in regarding the different rankings. In the women’s competition, one crew realized a perfect day with three victories on three matches, i.e. Brazil 1 (skipped by Senfft). The French boat (skipped by Julie Bossard) registered two successes for a defeat and clocks at the moment on the 2nd spot. In the men’s competition, Great-Britain dominated the day : 4 victories (on 4) for Shaw in group A and 3 victories (on 3) for Goss in group B. French skipper, Gatien Planson also won his two matches and Matthieu Ricque signed a victory and a defeat.
