FISU & CBDU launch First Edition of International University Beach Games

Multisports 4 September 2014

LAUSANNE – FISU, together with CBDU, its Brazilian Member Association, launches the first edition of the ‘International University Beach Games’ this Autumn (30 Nov. to 8 Dec., 2014) in Maceio, Brazil.

Indeed, the 2014 International University Beach Games will be a historic event for the University Sports movement mixing university sport and beach fun sports. This new competition welcomes university teams representing their universities, from all countries worldwide while the age-bracket for participation is the same as in the other FISU events (17 to 28 years of age). Athletes will compete in six beach sports, i.e. beach volleyball, beach soccer, beach handball, beach rugby, beach modern triathle and surfing.

For team sports, the first 10 teams to register in each gender category will be accepted. In surfing 16 athletes in each category are accepted, while for beach modern triathle 40 athletes in each category can be registered. Since the event is taking place in Brazil, quotas are kept for local universities (2 per gender category in each team sport, 4 for surf, and 8 in beach modern triathle, in each category). The entries will be accepted by order of arrival until the maximum number is reached. The OC will accept more than one team per country. The competition is for higher educational institutions only, regardless of country of origin.

All participants and guests will be accommodated in one of the best hotels in Maceió – Hotel Ritz Lagoa da Anta (www. ritzlagoamaceio.com). Delegations will be invited to arrive two days before the event Opening Ceremony and check-out no later than two days after the Closing Ceremony.

The official point-of-entry is Maceió International Airport, ZUMBI DOS PALMARES. The Organisation will provide dedicated transport for airport/hotel and return shuttles for all participants. A shuttle bus system will be used to/from the competition arena. All meals will be served at the official hotel where participants are accommodated. The daily fee (60€pp) includes full board (3 meals per day).
