The best rowing and Dragon Boat teams of Hungarian higher education institutions recently competed at the Danube Regatta in Budapest, during which the participants could also celebrate the International Day of University Sports (IDUS).

The competitions were complemented by educational, entertainment, health and sports programmes and concerts.

The event was opened by Dr. Ádám Schmidt, State Secretary for Sports, who emphasized that the event not only plays a role in popularizing sports, but also promotes the importance of healthy lifestyle.

Besides the Danube Regatta, university students and those interested in health and sports could also participate in the affiliate sports programmes (such as judo, 3×3 basketball, urban volleyball, climbing wall, ergometer, teqball, e-sport, freestyle soccer competition, scanner, etc.).

At the opening of the 1st day, The Hungarian University Sports Federations (MEFS) held a reception for the Sports Ambassadors of University Sport, thanking them for their intensive work in university sports over the past year and providing them with an opportunity for an informal discussion and exchange of experiences.

The Danube Regatta was held for the seventh time in front of the iconic central building of the Budapest University of Technology and Economics (BME).

Eight Hungarian and one Serbian university teams of 8 competed Vigadó and the BME on the Danube. The BME team won, with the University of Szeged and Corvinus University completing the podium.

After the rowing competitions, Dragon Boat teams from 12 universities competed in two categories for the championship title. The start list was completed by the All Stars team consisting of Olympic champions, Olympians, and sports leaders.

The competition was held on a 3200-meter stretch from Margaret Bridge to the central building of the BME. The first race was won by the National University of Public Service (NKE) and the second one by the Széchenyi István University, which managed to beat the 2022 world champion crew from the University of Pécs (PTE).

At the Danube Regatta/IDUS event, MEFS and the Hungarian Rowing Federation signed a strategic agreement to develop rowing in universities with the aim to increase participation in domestic and international university rowing competitions.

Cheerleading presentations, a quiz show and evening concerts made the day truly unforgettable.
