Russian Ice-Hockey team aiming for triple triumph

Winter Games 13 February 2019

Russian Ice Hockey Men’s Team announced for Krasnoyarsk 2019

KRASNOYARSK — Having won the last two editions of Ice-Hockey at the Winter Universiade, Team Russia is all set once again, this time with an added home advantage. Russia triumphed with gold medals in Ice-Hockey at both, Almaty 2017 and Granada 2015. In fact, the Russian team is the one to beat as they have won the competition a whopping twelve times, including five times as Team USSR.

They will have their work cut out for them though, with strong teams expected from Canada and USA who have also been among the medals in the last editions. Russia is in Group A along with USA and teams from Slovakia, Japan, Hungary and the Czech Republic. Group B includes Canada and teams from Kazakhstan, Latvia, Sweden, Great Britain and Switzerland.

The Russian men’s team includes 20 field players and 3 goalkeepers, many of whom play in the Major Hockey Leagues. The competitions start on 1 March. A detailed schedule of matches is available on the official Winter Universiade 2019 website in the Sports section
