Gwangju Mayor talks about 2015 Universiade at AIPS Congress

SOCHI Mayor Kang Un-Tae addressed the attendants of the 76th AIPS Congress in Sochi, Russia today, 18 April. The Mayor introduced his city to the international journalists and invited them to witness the Summer Universiade in his city in 2015. As president of the Organising Committee he talked about the challenges of hosting the Universiade and bidding for the 2019 FINA World Championships.

Gwangju OC Secretary-General Kim Yoon-Suk gave an insight on the strategic concept called ‘EPIC’ of the Universiade which stands for ‘Environmental Friendly City’, ‘Peace’, ‘IT Innovation’ and ‘Culture’.

Environmental friendly city refers to the Green Athletes’ Village which is being built in Gwangju. Regarding the IT Innovation, the OC is developing a total integrated management system for the Games. As a Sports City of Culture, Gwangju wants to bring together the people from different cultures, operating a volunteer school training some 120,000 volunteers for the Universiade, and organise international cultural exchanges.
