15th WUC Golf – Results Day 2

Championships 26 June 2014

CRANS-MONTANA – The highlight of the second day of competition was the incredible first half of competition played by the Japanese golfer Mikumu Horikawa who achieved a hole in one at the 8 hole of the Severiano Ballesteros course of the Crans-Sierre golf. Add to that two eagles achieved a few moments before and this gave him one of the best cards of the day out of the nine first holes. Unfortunately the end of his game was slightly more complicated, offering him nevertheless a score of 3 below par for this day. The day brought the Spanish player Cuartero to the lead thanks to his regularity and a card of 69, three below par. He is still trailed by the Malaysian player Gavin Green and the Canadian golfer Scott Secord.

In the women’s competition, and despite two best scores of the two players of Chinese Taipei, it is the golfer from Hong Kong Tiffany Chan who leads the competition with a total score of 139 – 5 below par – due to the professional status of the two competitors ahead of her. She is trailed by the Spanish player Marta Sanz (-3) and the Japanese Seira Oki (-2).

In the team competition, it is Team Spain which is leading both the men’s and women’s competitions followed in both tournaments by Japan. Malaysia in the men’s tournament and the USA in the women’s competition are currently ranked third. Czech Republic – in the women’s competition – and Ireland for the men’s competition are close to the medal spot in case the other teams make some mistakes. The third and fourth round will tell us more about the final result of the competition.
