EDUC-CDE Meeting

FISU 2 July 2016

MONTPELLIER – The final countdown to the 2016 FISU Forum kicked off with the EDUC-CDE Meeting on Saturday in Montpellier. Committee For The Education Services (EDUC) Chair Verena Burk and Student Committee (CDE) Coordinator Hilkka Pöyhönen welcomed members of both committees in Montpellier to go through the schedule of the Forum which will take place in the Southern French city from 4 till 9 July. Burk thanked the Organising Committee for the warm welcome and hospitality and congratulated all committee members on their selection.

FISU Forum Organising Committee chair Arnaud Richard then gave a presentation on the FISU Forum, expanding on the associated slogan ‘From the origins to the future of university sport’, Forum locations, the city of Montpellier and the event programme.

During the meeting participants – some of them new to the FISU Family – also learned about the International University Sports Federation itself and its educational programme and also discussed missions and tasks. After the joint session on Saturday, Sunday’s meeting will focus on the strategy and development of both committees separately.

The 2016 FISU Forum will be held from 4 till 9 July. Find more information on http://www.fisuforum2016-en.com/.

Maria Inés Gomez (ARG), EDUC Member: “It’s the first time for Argentina to be part of FISU Family so we are really happy and thankful for this opportunity. We are willing to spread out the ideas of FISU and especially all the educational activities of FISU to the American continent and of course Argentina. As it is the first time for our nation, my goal is to learn and listen. Of course we would like to organise a FISU event one day so we have to gain all the experience that we can but right now I think the most important thing is to let FISU know that America is here and to let Argentina know that the experience of coming here is worth it.”

Jordan Kenny (GBR), CDE Member: “I’m really looking forward to over the next few days meeting individuals from around the world who are engaged in organising and leading student sports whether that’s in universities or outside. The thing I’d really like to concentrate on is getting an understanding of what works in different regions of the world and how we can all learn from one another. There is obviously a huge amount of knowledge and we have to exploit that as best as we can.”
