MONTEVIDEO – Julio Jakob, president of the ‘Liga Universitaria de Deportes’, the NUSF from Uruguay, announced the final stage towards the celebration of the Federation’s 100th Anniversary which will be celebrated with an International University Football Cup.

“Yesterday was the kickoff of the final stretch towards the organization of the celebratory tournament for which already 12 countries will send a team”, Jakob said during a meeting. “More teams are to be confirmed in the coming weeks.”

Games will be played in the cities of Montevideo, Flowers and Mercedes and a couple of more host cities will be added to the list, according to the LUD President.

“Football is Uruguay’s most popular sport and the NUSF originally started as a single sport ‘Football League’, hence the idea of staging a football tournament to celebrate its centennial year”, Jakob concluded.

The International University Football Cup will take place between 24 November and 8 December, 2013 and received the patronage from FISU.
