Tight fights marked the 2022 FISU World University Championship Ski Orienteering

The 2022 FISU Championship Ski Orienteering ended in Jachymov, Czech Republic, with the middle mass start race, dominated by the Swiss teams.    

 

After earning two bronze medals in the previous days, Nicola Müller eventually skied to victory.  

 

The women race was a very close call, with Eliane Deininger beating her compatriot Alina Niggli for less than 1 second and the winner determined by photo finish. 

 

Over 95 student-athletes and officials from 12 countries participated in the competition in the heart of the Ore Mountains, near Karlovy Vary.

 

“It was an intense week full of skiing and Orienteering, with tight fights for the medals, new friendships, and a lot of fun,” said the organisers.

Pursuit – men: 1. Jorgen Baklid (Norway); 2. Rasmus Wickbom (Sweden); 3. Nicola Müller (Switzerland)

 

Pursuit – women:  1. Marina Viatkina (Russia); 2. Olesia Riazanova (Russia); 3. Jenny Baklid (Norway)

 

Mixed relay: 1. Russian Federation; 2. Sweden ; 3. Switzerland

 

Mass start – men: 1. Nicola Müller (Switzerland); 2. Gustaf Wickbom (Sweden); 3. Jorgen Baklid (Norway)

 

Mass start – women :  1. Eliane Deininger (Switzerland); 2. Alina Niggli (Switzerland); 3. Judita Traubaite (Lithuania)

 

Medals:

 

1.Russian Federation (3 gold, 2 silver); 2. Switzerland (2 gold , 1 silver, 3 bronze); 3. Norway (2 gold, 3 bronze); 4. Sweden (4 silver); 5. Lithuania (1 bronze)
