The 2020 FISU World University Championship Mind Sports goes online

Championships 5 August 2020

In these turbulent times, the University Sport Movement has still managed to keep a strong virtual presence. From the hosting on successful inaugural eSports Football Challenge to the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy, to the FISU World Forum, the university sports and education community has united online.

Following the success of these virtual event formats, we look to keep this rolling with an online edition of the 2020 FISU World University Championship Mind Sports event.

Originally scheduled in Bydgoszcz, Poland from 11-16 September, the event will now be held online, managed by the same local organising committee. The event will now take place from 26-30 October 2020 with open categories in both the Chess and Bridge event disciplines.

Following the outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic, all FISU World University Championships from March 2020 onwards were cancelled due to health and safety precautions.

The first three days of the four-day FISU World University Championship Speed Skating were the last international university sports event held in 2020, so the WUC Mind Sports event makes for a welcome return to the sporting calendar for the global sports community.

Registration opens on Friday, 14 August, for the WUC Mind Sports.  National University Sports Federations (NUSFs) may enter their teams on the FISU Online Accreditation System. Eligibility and other regulations can be found here.
