Preparation for FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy 2017 is well under way.

FISU 29 April 2017

KAZAN– With 2 months left before the start of FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy 2017, the Organising Committee reports on the preparation of the first edition.

By 27 April 89 countries had nominated their participants. It is worth noting that 10 countries have appointed 2 candidates: among them Argentina, Canada, China, Finland, Madagascar, New Zealand, Norway, Costa Rica, Uganda, Uruguay.  The Organizing Committee is daily corresponding to the representatives of national university sports federations.  For the convenience, communication is maintained in 5 languages: English, Russian, French, Spanish and Arabic.

The selection of candidates was a multi-layered process. The Organizing Committee is impressed by the approach in several countries. For instance, Canadian Interuniversity Sport circulated the call for applications attached to all their universities to invite them to apply. Once they received the applications, their International Committee reviewed them and selected based on qualifications, experience and the letter of recommendation.

The city of Kazan

The forum will have an intense and well-regarded programme, including lectures, roundtable discussions, networking and discussions in small groups. One of the main priorities of the FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy is to form a unique pool of speakers representing major international organizations in the fields of sports and education. Experts from UNESCO, IOC (International Olympic Committee), FISU, WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) as well as the representatives of organizing committees of the upcoming Universiades and the next World University Championships 2018 will speak at the forum and offer masterclasses.

EF language solutions will be the partner of the educational programme. Their specialists design special sessions aimed at forming and developing skills required for a successful management and implementation of volunteer programmes.

The Universiade Village

Volunteers from FISU member countries participating at the event will be accommodated at the Universiade Village where a few years ago the participants of the Summer Universiade 2013 lived. The educational programme will take place at the Volga Region State Academy of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism, which has been home for FISU International Education Centre In Kazan.
