FISU President visits Chinese host cities

XIAMEN – As the fourth edition of the 3x3 FISU World University League Finals took place in Xiamen, China, FISU President Oleg Matytsin met with students of Jimei University, one of the oldest higher education institutions in southern China. Founded by Chinese philanthropist Tan Kah Kee in 1918, Jimei University is celebrating its 100th anniversary. President Matytsin took the opportunity to talk with Jimei students about university sports, and the lifelong impact they have on our lives.

After the lecture, President Matytsin was greeted by Jimei's President, professor Li Qingbiao and was presented with a certificate of visiting professor; it was agreed the FISU President will develop the practice of meeting Jimei University students on future occasions, as FISU continues to develop its sports programme in Xiamen and Jinjiang.

Jinjiang was another important item on the President's agenda: on 15 November, after the opening ceremony of the World University League Finals and the first 3x3 games, he paid a visit to the city which is preparing to host the first edition of the FISU World University Cup Football, just one year from now.

During the visit, Liu Wenru (right), Party Secretary of Jinjiang, along with the city's Vice Mayor Wang Hafei, provided a comprehensive report on the recent KELME 2018 AUSF Football Cup, which served both as a test event and a qualifying round to FISU's new tournament.

Different aspects of preparation were discussed, including venue readiness, security, transportation, volunteer training, branding and more. Once again, Jinjiang officials demonstrated their full commitment to the delivery of an exemplary event conforming to the status of the world's most prestigious university football tournament.

Upon returning to Xiamen, the hometown for Qiaodan - the Chinese sports clothing company that is FISU's official partner - President Matytsin also met with Qiaodan's General Manager Ni Zhennian to discuss the ongoing cooperation ahead of the Krasnoyarsk 2019 Winter Universiade. The company is currently producing the uniforms that FISU executives, committee members and staff will be wearing during the Winter Universiade.
