FISU President attends ANOC General Assembly

DOHA – FISU President Oleg Matytsin was invited to attend the XXIV General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC), from 17-18 October in Doha, Qatar. The meeting brought together more than 1,000 delegates from the world’s National Olympic Committees (NOCs), as well as the IOC, international sports federations and a number of organising committee representatives from the upcoming Olympic Games.

Two years since signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between FISU and ANOC, President Matytsin had an opportunity to present the latest developments in university sports to the leaders of more than 200 NOCs. In his speech, the FISU President informed delegates about the forthcoming editions of the Universiade, the FISU University World Cup – Football, the cooperation with universities worldwide, FISU’s Healthy Campus project and the International Day of University Sport. He also spoke of the areas where NOCs and National University Sports Federations (NUSFs) could work together.

“We have so many good examples of positive cooperation between National Olympic Committees and National University Sports Federations,” President Matytsin said. “I would like to extend our sincere appreciation for these NOCs who have shown FISU continued support.”

The FISU President also made the most of his time in Doha by meeting with a number of NOC Presidents, including Krisztian Kulcsar of Hungary, and Kee Heung Lee of South Korea. He also conducted working meetings with some of the leading figures within the IOC, including new Olympic Education Commission Chair, Mikaela Cojuangco Jaworski, and Kirsty Coventry, Chair of the IOC Athletes’ Commission.
