FISU’s ambitious and extensive Healthy Campus project kicked off in earnest in May 2019, at two of the seven chosen pilot universities. Detailed meetings were held at Peking University and University of Lausanne, to plan the next few crucial steps in the implementation of the programme.
The FISU Healthy Campus project is an initiative that aims to enhance students’ well-being in all aspects. FISU’s objective with this project is to establish an interdisciplinary system dedicated to well-being, a healthy lifestyle & awareness among students regarding these aspects. The idea is also to share knowledge and best practices locally and globally between campuses using common references. A ‘FISU Healthy Campus Label’ will be awarded to acknowledge the universities’ efforts in improving the quality of life on their campuses.
The work started with a meeting between FISU and Peking University’s President Hao Ping, as well as Shen Zhen from the Federation of University Sports of China (FUSC). Also present were directors of the university’s departments, who will have an impact on the implementation of the FISU programme.
After the meeting in China, it was the turn of the University of Lausanne (UNIL), on whose campus the FISU Headquarters sit. UNIL was represented by Rector Nouria Hernandez, Vice-Rector Benoît Frund, the Director of Sports Services Pierre Pfefferlé and Sonia Matthey, in-charge of the Healthy Campus project at UNIL.
Also present at this meeting was the FISU leadership, including Secretary General-CEO Eric Saintrond, Director General Paulo Ferreira and Fernando Parente, Member of the Executive Committee.
The next round of meetings will be held with the University of Western Australia, University of Johannesburg in South Africa, Universtiy of Turin in Italy, the Peoples’ Friendship University of Russia (RUDN) in Moscow, and La Matanza in Argentina.
FISU will deliver a set of guidelines and final document for implementation of the project, including criteria to obtain the FISU Healthy Campus Label, to the National University Sports Federations (NUSFs) at the General Assembly in November in Turin.
