Ajla Del Ponte wins Swiss Student Sports Award 2020

delponte winner v2 fb 1000x1000pxDespite difficult conditions due to COVID-19, the Swiss Students Sports Awards were held for the second time in Lucerne recently.

 

Sprinter Ajla Del Ponte, a gold medallist at Napoli 2019, was given the top honour of the Swiss Students Sports Award 2020. 

 

Taking into account the current health and safety measures, Ajla Del Ponte did not receive the award in person, but was named during the ceremony. 

 

Prizes of honour were also awarded to heptathlete Caroline Agnou who won bronze the 2019 Summer Universiade, as well as to all the medal winners of the European Universities Championships 2019 (EUC) who were present.

 

Ajla Del Ponte is currently the Swiss sprinter of the hour, lining up one success after another. At Napoli 2019, she also won a silver medal in the women's 100m sprint, in addition to her gold in the 4x100m relay.

 

On the occasion of the Swiss Students Sports Award 2020 she was honored for these successes. Renato Maggi, Head of Delegation, stressed the fact that Ajla Del Ponte is an outstanding example for dual career, combining top elite sports and studies. She is a role model for many other athletes in Switzerland.

Daniel Studer, who is responsible for all the EUSA events at Swiss University Sports, reported that students from different Swiss Universities won medals in Orienteering, Badminon, Kickboxing, Rowing, Golf and Taekwondo.

 

The Swiss Students Sports Award 2020 was presented by Beat Antenen and musically framed by Elias Bernet on piano, Alicia Anliker and Vivian Bechtiger as singers, as well as the two dancers Adriana Berwert and Ariane Udvardi.
