FISU 7 November 2015

LAUSANNE – Today, 8 November, during the second day of the 34th General Assembly in Lausanne, the FISU Membership elected a new Executive Board to lead FISU for the next four years, i.e. the period 2015-2019.

Former 1st Vice-President Oleg Matytsin was elected President for the period 2015-2019 with 102 votes vs. 23 for incumbent President Claude-Louis Gallien.

In a first quote to FISU Media following his electoral victory, the new FISU President said the following: “I’m very proud to be elected as the new FISU President, I’m fully aware it is a great responsibility for me and my team. We need to establish first our tradition, but at the same time we have to continue to be very modern. Our main task is to involve as much as we can the Continental Federations and the National University Sport Federations in close cooperation with the international sports federations but also the international organisations such as UNESCO for instance. We have great resources and great traditions, I’m confident we will be successful.”

The new President has been involved in the development of student sport for over 15 years. The 51-years old Matytsin is from Moscow and has an academic background in physical education and administration with a Phd in pedagogical sciences. He also holds several honorary titles such as Master of Sport (table tennis) of the USSR as well as doctor honoris causa at several universities. He is a former rector of the State University of Physical Culture, Sport and Tourism and is the current President of the RSSU, the Russian NUSF. He has been the Head of Delegation of Team Russia at the Universiades since 2005 and is currently the Vice-President of the Organising Committee of the 2019 Winter Universiade in Krasnoyarsk.
