Registrations now open for the 2020 FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy

With just a few days to go before the start of the second part of the 2020 FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy (FVLA), the local organising committee is busy with preparations for the fourth edition.

 

Initially scheduled to be held in Kazan, Russian Federation in June, the 2020 FVLA was switched to an online format due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to ensure the high level of the educational courses as well asthe Student Ambassadors Programme, this year’s curriculum was divided into two parts: introductory sessions in June and more detailed sessions in September sessions.

 

2020 FVLA 1Earlier in the year, the June session (left) included two main topics: introduction to FISU and the Student Ambassadors Programme. It was the first ever fully online FISU event held successfully. A total of 237 participants registered across the two-day session.

 

The September session will include educational courses with various speakers, topics and formats. After completing this 3-day intensive course, participants are awarded the status of ‘FISU Student Ambassador’.

 

In order to allow this year’s selected students to also enjoy the onsite experience in Kazan and to meet each other in person, it has been decided that candidates selected for 2020 FVLA, will also get the chance to be part of the 2021 edition of FVLA in Kazan. The Organising Committee believes they will be active Student Ambassadors through the 2020-2021 season, following the action plan that will be developed together in September.

 

Registration of participants and accreditation for the event is open on the FISU online accreditation system here. It is expected that more than 150 participants from 116 NUSF and 5 CUSF as well as guests, FISU Student Ambassadors alumni, the Organising Committee of future World University Games will participate.

 

The founders of the Academy are the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and the government of the Republic of Tatarstan. The general partner of the event is Russian metals and mining company ‘Norilsk Nickel’.

 

 

About the Academy

The FISU Volunteer Leaders Academy (FVLA) is an educational event that serves as a key part of the international sports and volunteering movement. It is usually held in host city of the 2013 World University Games, Kazan, in the Russian Federation.

 

Every edition of the event thus far has brought together the most active students from FISU member countries.

 

The FVLA’s intense educational programme includes lectures and workshops by experts from FISU, the World Anti-Doping Agency, Education First, organising committees of World University Games and other top-level sports events.

 

The 2018 edition launched the FISU Student Ambassadors programme. Upon successful completion of theAcademy’s educational programme, all participants are awarded the status of FISU Student Ambassador in their countries.  Their main role is to serve as an important link between FISU and student communities in FISU member countries, helping to raise awareness about university sports among students.
