23 March 2021

This year from 26-27 March, a new hybrid format of the FASU General Assembly and FISU-FASU Strategic Dialogue will take place in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia) at the Kotebe Metropolitan University. Participation in this new format will be available in person, virtually over Zoom and Facebook live. The theme for this year’s event is “university sports in a changing world,”—a fitting title for recent global times.

The dialogue will focus on discussing the common goal of growing university sport amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, focusing on the steps taken towards the FISU Global Strategy 2027. A major focus will be put on establishing new ways of thinking that are necessary for creating new pathways for the development of university sport.

The two-day programme will cover the following topics:

  • Updates from FISU secretariat

  • Looking back, moving forward with university sport & preparing for the unknown

  • A look into FASU

  • Student-led sessions

  • Panel session about experiences in student involvement for the decision-making process

  • Outcomes of the FISU-FASU-NUSF Seminar in December 2020

  • Panel discussion about crafting a strategy in the face of uncertainty

  • Achieving increased participation and higher performance of university student-athletes

  • Various panel sessions: 3×3, Kings of Africa Rugby, Badminton, Tennis, Soccer, Cross Country & 10th FASU Games 2022

Overall, the aim of the Strategic Dialogue is to connect, motivate and enable stakeholders gain insight about university sport in Africa and around the globe.
