The History of Curling in FISU

The World Curling Federation (WCF) and the National Federation played a primary role in the organisation of the competition at the Universiade of Tarvisio in 2003. It was a success at both levels of the participation and attendance. Six men’s teams (NOR, KOR, RUS, SUI, GBR, USA) and five women’s teams (NOR, KOR, RUS, SUI, USA) entered the competition, resulting in an exciting battle between Russia and Canada in the women’s category (1. Russia, 2. Canada, 3. Norway). In the men’s category the ranking was 1. Canada, 2. Switzerland, 3. Korea.

Now a compulsory sport of the FISU Winter Games programme, the future of international university curling is assured. In large part this is thanks to the excellent cooperation between the World Curling Federation (WCF) and FISU, as collectively we closely follow curling’s evolution to develop our competition programme.

The Mixed Doubles event will be organised for the first time at Torino 2025
