1st AUCC: Final Round and Closing Ceremony

BEIJING – After 9-round competition, 1st Asian University Chess Championship came to the end on 23 October, 2015. The final round of 1st Asian University Chess Championship was held in the Capital University of Physical Education and Sports in Beijing, China on the morning of 23 October. After three hours and a half of intensive brain work, the ultimate results finally came about.

ZHONG-Bingshu

GM Susanto Megaranto from Gunadarma University (Indonesia) and WGM Ni Shiqun from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics (China) won the Men’s Individual Event and Women’s Individual Event respectively. In the Men’s section, Susanto Megaranto from Gunadarma University showed his great form by successfully breaking the blockade of several strong Chinese players in round 3 to 6 with 2 wins and 2 draws. Entering the 9th and final round by half a point margin, Megaranto defeated his teammate Farid Firman Syah in a minor piece endgame and clinched his title by an impressive score of 8/9. GM Ma Qun, the top rated player in Men’s group from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics, got the silver medal by 7/9 and his teammate GM Yu Ruiyuan got the bronze medal by 6.5/9.

Mr. Preecha

In the Women’s section, top seed WGM Ni Shiqun from Shanghai University of Finance and Economics achieved victory in this Championship by a nearly perfect score of 8.5/9, 1.5 points ahead of her closest rival Qiu Mengjie and Nie Xin, all of whom are from the same University. She also earned the Best Performance Award of this Championship by such a wonderful performance. Qiu Mengjie got the silver medal by winning a tiebreak match; Nie Xin got the bronze medal. Nguyen Thi Mai Hung from Vietnam and Anu Bayar from Mongolia finished at 4th and 5th with 6 points each.

Closing Ceremony

At the Closing Ceremony a 10-minute video recording the memorable moments and highlights of the competition was presented. In his closing speech, CUPES President ZHONG Bingshu congratulated the outstanding performances of each chess player and extended sincere thanks to all the participants. On behalf of AUSF, Mr. Preecha, AUSF Assessor thanked FUSC and CUPES for their hospitality and the wonderful organization. He also congratulated all the athletes on the great performances in the last 5 days.

As the AUSF flag slowly came down to the solemn anthem, the 1st Asian University Chess Championship concluded successfully.

Champion: Shang University of Finance and Economics (China)

1st Runner-Up: Gunadarma University (Indonesia)

2nd Runner-Up: National University of Mongolia (Mongolia)
