6th WUC Canoe Sprint: First day of competition

MINSK – The 6th World University Canoe Sprint Championship became successful not only for the host country Belarus (Zaslavl) but also for its neighbors from Poland. By the results of the first competition day Poland and Belarus won 6 medals, but Polish sportsmen are the leaders by the medals’ worthiness.

Aleh Yurenia (Belarus) took the first championship’s gold medal in kayak single at 1000 meters. He noticed, that it was very important for him to present country properly, because Belarus is held for the first time ever students championship at the international level.

Belarusian canoer Maksim Piatrou also succeeded in this championship and won a gold medal at 1000 meters. He dedicated his gold medal to his parents. Besides, he thanked to brothers Bahdanovich, who helped him to be ready for race tactically and psychologically.

 

 

Pawel Szandrach and Mariusz Kujawski were the leaders in kayak double at 1000 meters. Polish canoers Tomasz Kaczor and Vincent Slominski won by a wide margin at 1000 meters with the result 3:36.477.

Sportsmen from Poland Pawel Florczak, Martin Brzezinski, Rafal Rosolski and Bartosz Stabno who finished with the result 2:56.735 once again became the leaders at the longest distance of the championship in kayak fours.

Bartosz Stabno pointed that he is extremely happy to be the first at this race:

“When you take part in the individual race you are responsible only for yourself. If to talk about team race here everyone must do his best to achieve the highest results”.



Sportsmen from Kazakhstan Ilya Golendov, Andrey Yerguchyov, Daulet Sultanbekov, Yuriy Berezintsev won a silver medal with time-lag more than a second. Ivan Tsuranau, Siarhei Tseliashou, Andrei Tsarykovich, Ihar Baicheuski became bronze medalists (Belarus).

Polish athletes Piotr Kuleta, Mateusz Kaminski, Grzegorz Szpynda, Michal Kudla became silver medalists in canoe four at 1000 meters lost Belarusians Ruslan Sazanavets, Siarhei Pryvolkin, Dzmitry Pivavar, Yauheni Tsenhel. The third gold award came to medal box of the host country.

Ukrainian Dmytro Zagnii, Vitalii Pokotylo, Artem Balandin, Volodymyr Borodulko won bronze in canoe fours.
