6 June 2011

EILAT – 16 teams from 8 countries participated in the 2011 Friendship Games that took place in the city of Eilat, Israel, on the Red Sea between Saturday, May 28 and Thursday, June 2, 2011.

The Friendship Games are organised by ASA Israel, in cooperation with the Tel Aviv University Sports Club and the IDC Herzliya, under the patronage of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the International University Sports Federation (FISU).

In the week’s long basketball tournament the student basketball players at the university level use sport as a means to help instil dialogue, tolerance and ultimately peace among young people, especially in regions of conflict.

Apart from the sport competition, the participants were able to enjoy sightseeing of Jerusalem and the Dead Sea, and an entertainment programme, including the parties.

This year’s winning teams are Team Israel in the women’s event and Team Greece from Athens in the men’s event.
