Judoka Yassamine Djellab confirmed her exceptional form in Algeria.

Algeria’s 19th National University Games took center stage at the beginning of May at the University of Biskra, bringing together 2,072 athletes from 39 university provincial leagues in a vibrant celebration of student sport.

The competition featured 16 sports, including football, handball, volleyball, basketball, 3×3 basketball, futsal, beach volleyball, judo, karate, jiu-jitsu, wrestling, yoseikan budo, taekwondo, badminton, table tennis, athletics, and wushu.

Among the standout performers of the Games was Yassamine Djellab, a student of the University of Boumerdas, who once again confirmed her exceptional form by winning gold in the women’s judo 63kg category. Her triumph added another major milestone to an already remarkable month, coming just days after she was crowned African champion in the same weight category at the 47th African Judo Senior Championships held in Nairobi earlier in April.

Djellab’s success became one of the defining stories of the championship, symbolizing the high competitive standard of the Games and the strength of Algeria’s university sports system. “After a year of sustained hard work, discipline, and preparation, I am grateful to have reached these moments”, said Yassamine Djellab. “This success motivates me to continue working for even greater accomplishments in the future.”

Beyond the competitions, the Games also provided a platform for strategic dialogue on the future of university sports in Algeria. As part of the event, the Algerian Federation of University Sports organised its Fourth National Forum for University Sports at Mohammed Kheiser University in Biskra. Held in a distinguished scientific atmosphere, the forum emphasised the importance of university sports in shaping the modern Algerian university.

Professor Haj Ahmed Mohammed, President of the Algerian Federation of University Sports, expressed appreciation to all those who contributed to the success of the national sporting event and reaffirmed the federation’s commitment to advancing university sports across the country.
