Fernando Parente, FISU Deputy Secretary-General and Director of Education and Development, Leonz Eder, FISU President, Riccardo Fraccari, President, Michael Schmidt, Executive Director and Marco Ienna, Chief Operating Officer of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (as well as FISU Chief Sports Officer Shen Zhen).

FISU President Leonz Eder welcomed Riccardo Fraccari, President, Michael Schmidt, Executive Director, and Marco Ienna, Chief Operating Officer of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) at the World University Sports Federation’s headquarters in Lausanne.

On the morning of 24 February 24, WBSC leadership joined FISU leadership on the Lausanne University Campus in Switzerland for constructive meetings to strengthen their collaboration.

The discussions were interesting and open.

The two sides held in-depth discussions on the further development of baseball and softball within the university sports movement, and explored the potential for innovative rules and regulations in specific aspects.

Both sides agreed that university sport serves as a crucial platform for nurturing future leaders of nations and the world. Notably, baseball and softball have been confirmed as official sports on the programme of the North Carolina 2029 FISU World University Games, a decision that will significantly elevate the global influence of the sports and encourage greater youth participation.

Looking ahead, FISU and WBSC will maintain close communication and continue to strengthen collaboration to promote the development of university sport worldwide.
