The Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games leave behind a lasting educational platform for the next generation of student media.

Last summer, the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games set a new benchmark for the education and preparation of young media talents. With the largest-ever group of student reporters, photographers and commentators taking part, the organising committee placed a strong focus on learning, innovation and long-term impact. One of the outcomes of this approach is the U-Media Learning Hub, a digital platform designed to support future generations of young reporters.

Launched on 2 May 2025, the U-Media Learning Hub offers compact, reliable and easy-to-access information across the 18 sports contested at Rhine-Ruhr 2025. It was created to respond to the reality of major multi-sport events, where young reporters often need to familiarise themselves with new sports in a very short time. Open to everyone and accessible at any time, the platform supports fast learning and self-education whenever quick preparation is needed for reporting assignments.

For students by students

Developed with the support of master’s students from Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart (Germany), the hub combines sport-specific knowledge with practical media guidance. Alongside competition formats, rules, glossaries and athlete profiles, users can access interactive quizzes, videos and downloadable materials, as well as tailored advice for reporters, photographers and commentators.

The U-Media Learning Hub is part of the wider U-Media Erasmus+ project, funded by the European Commission and delivered between December 2024 and September 2025. The project brought together motivated students and experienced professionals to create an innovative educational framework for sports media, supported by a consortium of partners including the University of Porto, Hochschule der Medien Stuttgart, the University of Tübingen and AWO Südwest gGmbH (T_OHR).

As a permanent and open resource, the U-Media Learning Hub stands as a strong legacy of Rhine-Ruhr 2025, continuing to support the FISU Young Reporters Programme and helping young media professionals learn faster, prepare smarter and cover university sport with confidence.
