The International University Sports Federation (FISU) congratulates Stefan Bergh, current Chair of the FISU Development Committee (CDSU), on his appointment as the next Secretary General of the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF).
Stefan Bergh will officially take on the role during the first quarter of 2026, following a structured transition period. His appointment is the result of an extensive international selection process and comes as the ITTF prepares for its 100th anniversary, a key milestone in the federation’s history.
A highly respected figure in international sports governance, Stefan Bergh has been an integral part of the FISU family for over three decades. His deep knowledge of global sport, combined with a collaborative leadership style, has left a lasting mark on FISU’s development work and continental engagement strategies.
Several senior positions over the years
A longstanding contributor to University Sport, Stephan Bergh has held several senior positions, including: Assessor (1995–2003), Vice-President (2003–2015), Chair of the Development Committee (CDSU) (2007–2015 and reappointed since 2024), Chair of the Evaluation Committee for the Summer Universiade (2007–2015), and Vice-Chair of the International University Sports Council (2011–2015). In his current role as CDSU Chair, he has worked closely with the five Continental University Sports Federations (CUSFs), supporting capacity building, and aligning regional efforts with FISU’s global strategy.

Beyond FISU, Stefan Bergh has served as Secretary General and CEO of the Swedish Sports Confederation since 2016, where he oversees 72 national federations and a vast grassroots sports network. He also previously led the European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation (ENGSO) as its President, further solidifying his influence in the European and global sport movement.
A significant leadership role
As ITTF Secretary General, he will lead the federation’s global administration and drive strategic execution across governance, partnerships, events, and development, key areas where his extensive experience will be a major asset.
