Between two coordination visits, FISU Winter Games Director, Milan Augustin, participated to the Vasaloppet Ski Festival 50-kilometer race in Changchun, China.
The annual Vasaloppet Ski Festival kicked off in Changchun on Sunday 4 January 2026, with a special participant lending powerful backing to the city’s upcoming Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade. Milan Augustin, FISU Winter Games Director, took part in the 50-kilometer race, embodying FISU’s full support for the development of winter sports in Changchun, Jilin Province, and across China.

Eight days of visits
Parallel to the festival, the FISU’s on-site coordination visit for the 33rd Winter Universiade Changchun (which will take place 15-25 January 2027) is in full swing. From 30 December 2025, to 7 January 7 2026, chairpeople from FISU Technical Committees for cross-country skiing, ski orienteering, biathlon, curling, short track speed skating, speed skating and ice hockey are conducting on-site inspections of the competition venues.
They are closely collaborating with the local Organising Committee to finalise event programmes and competition schedules. A second delegation, including chairpeople from the alpine skiing, snowboard, freestyle & freeski, ski mountaineering and cross country running (still to be approved) Technical Committees is set to arrive for further coordination starting on 16 January 2026.
Strong national support
The Chinese Student Sports Federation, together with the governments of Jilin Province and Changchun City, has attached great importance to the preparations for the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade. They have provided robust logistical support and full coordination to ensure the smooth progress of venue inspections and subsequent preparatory work, demonstrating China’s commitment to hosting a successful international winter sports event.

As one of the world’s premier winter sports events for university athletes, the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade is expected to showcase the charm of winter sports and promote cultural exchanges among global youth. With FISU’s strong support and meticulous preparations by the host parties, the event is poised to become a milestone in the development of winter sports in China.
