A three-member delegation from the International University Sports Federation (FISU) paid a courtesy visit to the Chinese Embassy in Bern on 16 December, aiming to strengthen communication with member states and advance university sports development across Asia and the globe.
The delegation was led by FISU President Leonz Eder, Secretary General/CEO Matthias Remund, and Chief Sports Officer Shen Zhen, and was received by Qian Minjian, Chinese Ambassador to Switzerland.

Ambassador Qian Minjian (middle with Li Xudong, Educational Counselor of the Chinese Embassy far right) commended FISU’s outstanding contributions to promoting young people’s physical and mental wellbeing and providing high-level competitive platforms for university athletes worldwide. He emphasised that China has always valued international university sports cooperation and will continue to support FISU’s mission of fostering youth exchanges through sports.
In response, the FISU delegation affirmed China’s pivotal role in advancing international university sports, highlighting the remarkable legacy of the Chengdu 2023 FISU World University Games. They expressed sincere expectations that China, taking the opportunity of hosting the 33rd Winter Universiade in Changchun (January 15-25, 2027), will further unite global youth and make greater contributions to the development of international university sports.
Li Xudong, Educational Counselor of the Chinese Embassy, also attended the meeting. The talks reinforced mutual understanding between China and FISU, laying a solid foundation for deepening cooperation in university sports and ensuring the success of the Changchun 2027 Winter Universiade.
