FISU Oceania held its General Assembly on Wednesday 19 November. An important milestone in the Federation’s year, it provided an opportunity for members to be updated not only on the years activities, but also on the future strategy of the Federation.
In keeping with FISU Oceania’s sustainability strategy, the General Assembly was held online. It was opened by FISU Oceania President, David Schmude who performed the opening prayer and acknowledged the traditions, cultures and leaders of the Pacific nations.

The International University Sports Federation provided a short address to the meeting including a welcome by FISU President Leonz Eder and by the Chair of the Development Committee, Stefan Bergh.
FISU Secretary General and CEO Matthias Remund took the opportunity to provide an overview of the reviewed FISU Strategy and highlighted the importance of Continental University Sport Federations in the global university sport movement.
FISU Oceania has 12 members and associated members which includes American Samoa, Australia, Cook Islands, Fiji, French Polynesia, Guam, Marshall Islands, New Caledonia, New Zealand, Northern Mariana Islands, Papua New Guinea and Samoa. Its activities in 2025 have been guided by the implementation of the their Strategic Plan 2025–2029, with continued focus on strengthening member engagement and supporting the development of university sport across the region.
Key activities for FISU Oceania in 2025 included:
- An increase in IDUS activations across university campuses (like here in the Marshall Islands)
- Increased signatories to the FISU Healthy Campus programme led by Australia who now have almost half their universities signed to the programme
- Attendance by the FISU Oceania President at the Fiji University Games in September
- Key actions taken following FISU Oceania’s sustainability strategy – Our Green Path
- Successful hosting of the 3×3 Basketball Continental Qualifying tournament by Auckland University of Technology
- Performance of Australia and New Zealand athletes at the FISU World University Games Winter and Summer and at Brasilia 2025 FISU University World Cup 3xe Basketball.

Member Federations were also able to provide an overview of their successes throughout the year. “While our ambitions remain high, we continue to operate with limited resources and a largely volunteer-based structure, and this has required us to prioritise activities that are realistic, sustainable and achievable for our Executive Committee and our member nations”, said President Schmude.
