The University of Brasília (UnB) has officially received the FISU Healthy Campus certification, becoming the third institution in Brazil to achieve this distinction.
The recognition was presented during the FISU University World Cup 3×3 Basketball, held in Brasilia, in a special ceremony attended by FISU President Leonz Eder and First Vice-President Luciano Cabral, who handed the certificate to UnB Rector Rozana Naves.

With this achievement, UnB positions itself as a national pioneer in promoting health and wellbeing on campus, further strengthening its alignment with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Brazil now has three certified universities among the eight currently enrolled in the FISU Healthy Campus Programme: the University of Rio Verde (the first to be certified in the country), the University of Fortaleza (UNIFOR), and now UnB.
The certification reflects the implementation of 78 health-promotion initiatives across FISU’s seven core domains: Physical Activity and Sport; Nutrition; Disease Prevention; Mental and Social Health; Risk Behaviour; Environment; Sustainability and Social Responsibility; and, Healthy Campus Management.
University of Brasilia’s journey towards certification began in 2023 at the Faculty of Physical Education (FEF), with the launch of an outreach project aimed at integrating health promotion into the university’s culture. This led to the successful application and awarding of the Bronze Label in April 2024, following strong evidence of consistent programming and campus-wide engagement.

FEF professor Felipe Costa highlighted that the process has been a powerful tool for institutional self-assessment, helping UnB reflect on how it serves the health of its community. Camila Areda, Dean for Community Affairs, emphasised that the recognition brings both responsibility and opportunity, to integrate health, sport, culture, leisure, and sustainability into daily university life.

FISU President Leonz Eder praised the university’s dynamic and inclusive approach to wellbeing: “We are extremely proud of UnB’s achievement and inspired by the university’s energy and commitment to healthier lifestyles. With this spirit, you will surely reach the gold and platinum levels very soon.”
UnB in university sport
UnB has also gained national attention through its sporting success. At the 2025 Brazilian University Games (JUBs) in Natal, UnB secured 14 medals, including three golds in cheerleading. In the previous year (2024), the university won 13 medals with the largest delegation in the competition (108 student-athletes), earning the Best University in University Sport award among more than 300 federal institutions.
FISU First Vice-President Luciano Cabral (right) noted: “University sport is about shaping people. It supports students’ educational journey through the values of sport — not only producing high-performance athletes, but high-performance citizens, in life and in academia.”
