International Basketball Federation (FIBA) Secretary General Andreas Zagklis met with International University Sports Federation’s Secretary General and CEO Matthias Remund at FISU Headquarters in Lausanne.

International University Sports Federation (FISU) and International Basketball Federation (FIBA), as close strategic partners, have jointly hosted top level events including FISU World University Games and FISU University World Cups 3×3 basketball. The next FISU event is actually the Brasilia 2025 FISU University World Cup 3×3 basketball from 14-16 November 2025.

This year, during the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games in Germany, they successfully delivered 3×3 basketball and 3×3 wheelchair basketball competitions on the same court on the same days for the first time in FISU history.

On the afternoon of 22 October, FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis paid a special visit to the FISU Headquarters, he was warmly welcomed by FISU Secretary General and CEO Matthias Remund, who held in-depth deliberations with him, conducting a comprehensive assessment of the existing cooperation and formulating expectations and plans for future collaboration.

Both parties concurred that basketball stands as the most popular sport in world university sports, boasting prominent driving and leading effects. They reaffirmed their confidence and resolve to further promote the widespread development of international university basketball, with a particular focus on advancing the high-quality growth of 3×3 basketball.
