This visit underscores the ongoing commitment of both organisations to enhance collaboration and advance the development of university sports across Europe and globally.
The European University Sports Association (EUSA) Secretary General Matjaz Pecovnik had the pleasure to show Matthias Remund their offices in the Slovenian capital, introducing him to the staff members and giving him a brief introductory presentation of recent EUSA challenges and achievements.

During the visit, the FISU Secretary General (far right) who assumed his role at FISU in December 2024, engaged in productive discussions with both EUSA Secretary General and the rest of EUSA Directors: Sara Rozman, Director Education & Operations / COO; Liam Smith, Director Sports Events; and Andrej Pisl, Director Projects & Policy.
The meetings focused on evaluating the outcomes of recent joint initiatives and planning for upcoming events, including the European Universities Games scheduled for 2026 in Salerno, Italy; exploring opportunities to expand educational programmes and volunteer engagement within university sports.
Successful collaboration
This visit builds upon a history of successful collaboration between FISU and EUSA. Notably, in October 2024, both organisations contributed to the EUSA Convention and EUSA-FISU Seminar in Salerno, Italy, bringing together over 100 participants to discuss the future of university sports and share best practices. Additionally, the 2024 FISU World Forum held in Zagreb highlighted the power of sports to unite people across borders and emphasised the importance of inclusivity, education, and perseverance in the world of sports.

“Collaboration between FISU and the different continental university sports federations is essential”, insisted Matthias Remind. “It was important for me to visit EUSA at their headquarters to meet everyone in person. But these meetings are also aimed at planning future collaborations when they make sense. We share the same objectives and we will both continue to promote university sport, educational programmes, student wellbeing, healthy lifestyles, global exchanges, sustainability and inclusivity.”
