Amongst other achievements, Professor Won was known for her pioneering work in elderly sport and her contribution towards gender equality. She will be greatly missed.
The International University Sports Federation mourns the passing of Professor Young-shin Won, who departed this life peacefully on 6 May 2025, at the age of 69.

She was a distinguished figure in the field of sports science, particularly know for her pioneering work in elderly sports and the development of K-Yangsaeng Chejo (K-Wellness Gymnastics). As FISU Gender Equality Committee Member and Secretary General of Korea University Sports Board (KUSB), Professor Won dedicated a significant part of her career to university sports movement and to help aid better involvement of women in FISU.
Professor Won’s passing is a significant loss to the sport community in Korea and her work has left a lasting impact on elderly sports as well as the equality for men and women in sports.
